Jean Lafon was a painter of landscapes and coastal views evoking in paint the poetry of the Côte d'Azur coastline.

 

He was particularly adept at capturing the atmosphere of the late afternoon and evening sun, often viewed contre-jour.

 

His compositions typically feature rocky outcrops and dramatically twisted pine trees silhouetted against the balmy, coruscating sea of the French Riviera. Coastal views by moonlight were another of the artist's specialities.
